School Library Journal Review
Gr 4-6-While these titles include simple biographies, they are also career and invention materials, and would be useful in classes on a variety of topics: introductions to inventors, inventions, the creative process, useful tools to society, or the history of common items. They provide helpful time lines of the inventors' lives as well as background on their most famous creations and information about the items' uses. Color and black-and-white photos and color graphics add to the information on most pages. These books are easy to read and full of enough facts to make a solid basis for research, but it's doubtful that students will pick them for pleasure reading.-Erlene Bishop Killeen, Stroughton Area School District, WI (c) Copyright 2010. Horn Book Review
These books present the lives of three very different inventors. Each was brilliant, determined, and, despite adversity, successful. Though the writing tends to oversimplify issues and concepts, the stories are inspiring. The many photographs and occasional diagrams add interest. Reading list, timeline, websites. Glos., ind.
