The article uses archaeology to examine the 1680 Pueblo Revolt and Pueblo warriors' subsequent facing a siege of their Black Mesa fort in northern New Mexico against Spanish soldiers in 1694. An overview of Pueblo peoples' relations with Spanish missions in New Mexico, including Pueblo warriors' attacking them during the Revolt , is provided.

The article focuses on the history of Evangelism in Southwest borderlands of North America between 750 and 1750. The author discusses the evangelical movements that impacted the area, the Chaco Phenomenon, the Katsina religion, Franciscan Catholicism, and Po'Pay's Revolt . He explores how these events impacted the power relations between Pueblo men and women and examines how they reorganized religious and cultural beliefs.
