    Excellently put on

Good comedy. The picture, the work of the Paris studio, is excellently put on. Mr. Whiffles has a sweetheart, Mme. Bonafait, who has the Napoleonic hobby. Whiffles smashes a bust while visiting his intended, but shortly afterward receives word that his uncle has left him a legacy of a bust of the Little Corporal. Delighted, Whiffles dreams he is Napoleon, his valet is an Oriental servant; he interviews three of his marshals and reviews the Old Guard; the sweetheart becomes the Empress and has her Ladies of the Court. There is a fine bit of absurdity when "Boni" and his marshals go to call on the Empress in an automobile. The keener the house the stronger will this comedy go. - The Moving Picture World, August 30, 1913

    No, He's Not Mad

My first thought when I saw the title of this Charles Prince comedy was that he was going to go mad and think himself Napoleon. I was pleasantly surprised by what actually happens. Prince goes to visit Pépa Bonafé and discovers she is mad about Napoleon. She's got paintings of Napoleon and statues of Napoleon, and I hesitate to think about her underwear. When Prince accidentally destroys one of her Napoleon bric-a-brac, she orders him away. But he has a plan to deal with the fair lady. That night, however, he dreams that he is Napoleon, and that Mlle Bonafé is Josephine.

There are a lot more camera tricks in this short comedy than Prince's productions usually used, and they are quite justified and well handled. Otherwise, it's a typically slight and amusing comedy.
